"On a side note it is heartening to know that Americans actually paid attention to an election that wasn't there own."
In general, Americans only paid attention to the single news story that the American media ran about the event (or perhaps only the headline of the news story). In general, the American media clearly demonstrated they've never paid any attention to Canadian politics, and have no understanding of the terms of Canadian political debate. (Actually, the same goes for most of the international media. Honestly, who cares about Canada?)

You may not remember me, but I would occasionally show up like a bad penny on your old blog before you left for Africa.
I'm your friendly, neighborhood conservative Texas who told you about a prediction that Canada was going to make a turn to the right.
I just wanted to congratulate you on a Harper victory. It's a bright new morning in Canada.
To stand up for the Canadians Harper is still left of the Democrats on many issues. So don't get too smug.
On a side note it is heartening to know that Americans actually paid attention to an election that wasn't there own.
